Acquiring new students is difficult any time of year, but the difficulty rises dramatically mid-season. While recital is surely on your mind, increasing enrollment mid-season should be also. Try these simple yet brilliant effective methods to up mid-season enrollment.
Offer an incentive such as coupon to dancewear or discount off costume to any student who brings a friend that signs up to a dance class over a special week. Make sure the parents are well aware of this deal as it will give them an incentive to make sure their child brings a friend. In classes where your students have brought a friend, ensure potential new students enjoy the class and can pick up the material. Your students will enjoy showing off to their friends and hopefully the friends will want to take more classes. If you are worried about losing ground on recital numbers, at the end of the class leave time for a quick run through of the recital number to show your new potential students what you are working on.
Physical education is required in every state. Schools are constantly looking for new ways to get students up and moving. Call as many local schools as you can and see if you can teach a free day of dance classes in place of gym class. Many will be happy to have you, and though you may not make any money you can bring flyers and discounts to the school as well as spark interest in the students. Keep the class simple; we suggest a "Zumba" version of a dance class so that all students (no matter how uncoordinated) can follow along and feel like they are learning. Be sure to bring plenty of material to send home with interested students and leave contact information with the regular physical education teacher.
One effective way to attract new students is to advertise where the parents get their away time. Put up flyers or place broachers at local gyms and coffee shops. Many small businesses will be happy to display your advertisement material in exchange for you displaying theirs at your dance studio. Parents with clear heads are more likely to check out your material and encourage their child to try it.
Luckily, team spirit is coming back into style. That means students are wearing clothing which shows off their team/activities. Taking the time to create appealing apparel is a great way to advertise; your students become a walking poster for your studio. Be sure your apparel shows off what your studio has to offer. Try designs which show multiple dance styles and have bright vibrant colors. Also be sure to include your website, phone number, or address so potential students can find you. Offer a mid-season discount on your apparel so that students and parents purchase more apparel.
Young children are the bread and butter of many dance studios. Find local day cares and after school programs willing to swap advertisement material. Parents of young children are likely to see the material and give your studio a try, thus growing enrollment and potentially securing a life long client.
Have a special day where parents and potential new students are allowed to come preview what you are working on for recital. This is good practice for your students, excites the parents, and can lead to new clients. Be sure to post the open house information around town where new clients can see it. Offer an incentive for already existing students to bring a friend to the open house.
Call your local schools and donate to their next pep rally. Many middle schools and high schools hold pep rallies where they have give aways. Donate a month of free classes as a give away to the next pep rally. In addition, at the give away mention that any student who mentions the pep rally within the next month gets a ten percent discount on their first month.
In person marketing is still the most effective. Try searching MEET UP for mommy and me groups. Contact the owner of the group and offer to give them a sample Mommy and Me class either at your studio or at their Meet Up. Print flyers and give out broachers with information about your studio. If you can not attend the meet up, higher a student to drop off flyers and broachers.
